Terms of Service
The short version
- You must be 14 or older. One account per person.
- A token lets you host one game. Tokens are a game license, not money: they cannot be cashed out or transferred.
- Stripe sells subscriptions and top-ups to you as merchant of record.
- Argue hard, but no hate, harassment, impersonation, or tricks on the jury.
- Vera, the jury, the announcer, and Vera’s voice are AI-generated. They can be wrong. It is a game.
- Anyone can report illegal content to us, and you can contest any decision we make about yours.

1. About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Contradicto (“we”, “us”; see our legal notice), for the use of the Contradicto game at contradicto.com and its pages (the “Service”). By creating an account or playing, you accept them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.
If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms takes away the rights that consumer law gives you.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 14 years old to create an account or play. If you are under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you need a parent or guardian’s permission to make purchases. Watching a match through a viewer link needs no account.
3. Accounts
- You sign in with Google, Apple, or a code sent to your email. Use a permanent email address you control; we may refuse disposable addresses.
- One person, one account. Do not share your account or create extra accounts.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else is using it.
- Your display name and handle must follow the acceptable use rules below. We may change a name or handle that does not.
4. Tokens
What a token is
A token lets you host one game. The host pays: guests who join with your code, challengers in your tournament room, and viewers use none. A rematch is charged to whoever paid for the first match. The Daily Debate costs one token like any other game.
Tokens are a limited, personal, revocable license to use a feature of the Service. They are not money, e-money, or property. They have no cash value, are not transferable to another account or person, cannot be sold or traded, and are not redeemable for cash or anything else, except where the law requires otherwise.
Daily tokens
- The first time you use the Service on a day (UTC), you receive up to 3 daily tokens. Unused daily tokens carry over, but your balance of daily tokens never goes above 9.
- To prevent farming, we limit how many accounts on one network can receive daily tokens per day. Accounts over the limit can still play with the tokens they have.
Which tokens are spent first
Hosting a game spends daily tokens first, then your subscription’s monthly games, then your own games (top-ups and rewards).
Top-up and earned games
Games you buy as a top-up, and tokens you earn from streaks and referrals, do not expire while the Service operates.
Unused games
If a game you hosted ends before it starts, because you left the lobby or nobody joined, its token is returned automatically to where it came from. A monthly game comes back only while its month lasts. Once the debate starts, the token is spent.
Corrections and revocation
We may correct a balance changed by a mistake, and remove tokens obtained by fraud, abuse, a bug, or a purchase that was refunded or charged back. This can make your balance negative; you then need to bring it back above zero before you can host again.
If the Service closes
We will announce it at least 30 days in advance and, where the law requires, refund unused purchased games.
5. Subscriptions and top-ups
Monthly subscriptions
- A subscription gives you a set number of games every month: 50 games or 150 games a month, at the price shown in the store.
- Each paid month refills your monthly games to that number. It does not add to them: unused monthly games do not roll over.
- Your monthly games are usable until the end of the month you paid for, even after you cancel.
- A subscription renews automatically each month at the then-current price until you cancel. We will tell you about a price change before the renewal it applies to, and you can cancel before it takes effect.
- Cancel any time with “Manage billing”, which opens Stripe’s billing portal. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the games of the current month stay until it ends.
- Changing tier is also done in “Manage billing”. Moving up to 150 games charges the difference for the rest of the month and adds the extra games at once. Moving down takes effect at the next renewal.
- An account holds one subscription at a time.
Top-ups
- A top-up buys any number of games from 10 to 500 at the price per game shown in the store.
- Top-up games never expire while the Service operates.
Passes bought before 5 October 2026
Passes are no longer sold. A pass bought earlier keeps working under the terms it was bought with until it ends, and a pass subscription that renews keeps renewing until you cancel it in “Manage billing”.
6. Purchases through Stripe
Subscriptions and top-ups are sold through Stripe’s hosted checkout. Stripe is the merchant of record: Stripe sells the purchase to you, charges your payment method, handles sales tax and VAT, and sends your receipt. Stripe’s own terms apply to the payment. Prices are shown at checkout and include VAT where it applies. Games are added to your account as soon as Stripe confirms the payment, usually within seconds, and a subscription’s monthly games each time Stripe confirms a renewal.
7. Your right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer in the EU, you normally have 14 days to withdraw from an online purchase.
- Top-up games are digital content delivered at once. Before checkout we ask you to tick “I want my games now, and I understand I lose my 14-day right of withdrawal once they are delivered.” By doing so you expressly ask for immediate delivery and acknowledge that you lose the right of withdrawal once the games are added to your account.
- Subscriptions deliver each month’s games at once, at the start of that month. Before checkout we ask you to tick “I want my monthly games now. I understand each month’s games are delivered at once and I lose the 14-day right of withdrawal for them.” By doing so you expressly ask for immediate delivery and acknowledge that you lose the right of withdrawal for each month’s games once they are added to your account. You can still cancel the subscription at any time, which stops the next renewal.
- Passes bought before 5 October 2026 keep the withdrawal terms they were sold with: if you withdraw within 14 days of buying, we refund what you paid minus a proportionate amount for the time the pass was active. To withdraw, email [email protected] with the email of your account, or send any other clear statement.
We keep a record of which statement you agreed to and when, with your purchase.
8. Refunds
Beyond your legal rights, refunds are at our discretion. If something went wrong with a purchase, email us within 30 days; refunds are paid through Stripe to the original payment method. When a month of a subscription is refunded or charged back, we remove that month’s games in proportion to the money returned: first from your monthly games while that month is still running, then from your own games. Games of that month that already expired unused are not taken again. When a top-up is refunded or charged back, we remove the games it added from your own games, in proportion to the money returned. If the games were already spent, the balance can go negative. We also remove any referral reward the purchase triggered. A chargeback opened without contacting us first may lead to the account being suspended while it is resolved.
If the Service fails to work as described, you have the remedies that consumer law provides for digital content and services, including repair, a price reduction, or a refund.
9. Streak and referral rewards
Streaks
- Your day streak grows each UTC day on which you finish at least one recorded match. Same-screen matches are not recorded and do not count.
- Milestones add tokens: day 3 (+1), day 7 (+3), day 14 (+5), day 30 (+10), and then +10 every further 30 days.
- Every 7th day in a row earns a streak freeze, up to 2 at a time. A freeze covers one missed day automatically.
Referrals
- Share your invite link. When someone signs up through it as a new player and makes a qualifying first purchase (the first payment of any subscription, or a top-up of 30 games or more), you receive 25 tokens.
- The reward is held for 14 days after the purchase and is cancelled if the purchase is refunded or disputed in that time.
- You cannot refer yourself. A referral is not rewarded when the two accounts share a payment customer, an email address, or a sign-up network, or when the new account belongs to someone who deleted an earlier account.
- At most 10 referral rewards per account in any 30 days.
- We may remove rewards obtained by breaking these rules, and claw back rewards whose purchase is later refunded.
We may change or end the reward programs for the future. Rewards you have already received fairly stay yours.
10. Acceptable use
Debate hard: it is the point of the game. But do not:
- use hate speech, slurs, or attacks on people for who they are, including their race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, or disability;
- harass, threaten, bully, or sexually target anyone, or share someone’s private information;
- impersonate another person, a streamer, Contradicto, or the game’s moderator or system;
- try to manipulate the AI jury or Vera with instructions instead of arguments, for example by posing as the system, issuing orders to the jurors, faking your opponent’s concession, or speaking for your opponent (the jury is built to punish this);
- create or use multiple accounts, or coordinate accounts, to farm daily tokens, streaks, ratings, or referral rewards;
- use bots, scripts, or automation to play, to create accounts, or to call our API outside the game;
- break the law, infringe others’ rights, or upload anything illegal;
- disrupt, overload, probe, or reverse-engineer the Service, or get around its limits.
Motions you write, display names, handles, bios, and tournament room names are screened automatically by an AI model before others see them, and may be refused. Names, captions, motions, and AI output also pass through a profanity and slur filter. Neither check is perfect. You can block or report a player. If you break these rules, we may remove content, reset ratings or results, revoke tokens and rewards, and suspend or close accounts. We tell you why, and you can contest the decision (section 11).
11. Reporting illegal content, and our decisions
How to report
Anyone, with or without an account, can tell us about content on Contradicto that they believe is illegal: a name, handle, bio, or public page, a motion or room name, or something said in a match. Players can use Report in the game. Anyone can email [email protected] with:
- where the content is: the link to the public page or the match (its viewer link), or the player’s handle;
- why you believe it is illegal, as precisely as you can;
- your name and email address (you may leave these out if you are reporting child sexual abuse material);
- a statement that you believe in good faith that your report is accurate and complete.
What happens next
We confirm that we received your report: on screen when you use Report in the game, and by email when you write to us. A person reviews it promptly, carefully, and objectively, and we tell you what we decided and how you can challenge it. If the content is illegal or breaks these terms, we remove it or restrict it, and may act on the account as described in section 10. If a report suggests that someone’s life or safety is at risk, we tell the police or other competent authority. We may stop handling reports, after a warning, from someone who often sends reports that are clearly unfounded.
If we act on your content or account
If we remove or restrict something you posted, or suspend or close your account, or limit your tokens, we tell you by email or in the game, with the reasons: what we did, the facts behind it, whether an automated tool was involved, the rule or law it is based on, and how you can challenge it. When the automatic screening refuses a text, the game tells you at once.
How to challenge a decision
- Complaint to us. Within 6 months of a decision, about your content or account or about a report you made, email [email protected] and say why you think it is wrong. It is free. A person, not an automated tool, reviews the complaint, and we reverse the decision without delay if it was not justified.
- Out-of-court settlement. You may also take the dispute to an out-of-court dispute settlement body certified under the EU Digital Services Act. The European Commission publishes the list of certified bodies.
- Courts. You can always go to court instead, or as well.
Authorities can reach us at the single point of contact in our legal notice.
12. Your content, streams, and clips
“Your content” is what you say or type in a match, the motions you write, your name, handle, and bio. You keep your rights in it. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, transcribe, process, and display it as needed to run the Service: to show it to the other players and viewers of that match, to have the AI jury and Vera respond to it, and to show your results on leaderboards and, if you choose, your public profile. The license ends when the content is deleted, except for results kept in other players’ histories as described in the Privacy Policy.
Streaming and clips. You may stream your matches, including on monetized channels, and share the clips the game makes, as long as you do not suggest that Contradicto endorses you. When you play a match, you agree that the other players in it may stream it and share clips from it, which can show your display name, avatar, and quotes of what you said. Matches can be watched by anyone with the match’s viewer link.
The game itself, including its characters, art, sound, and software, belongs to us or our licensors. These terms give you only the right to use it as intended.
13. The AI jury and Vera
The jurors, the announcer, and Vera are AI models. They decide votes and verdicts by judging arguments, and they can misunderstand, be inconsistent, or be wrong, including about facts. Transcription can also mishear words. Their output is entertainment, not advice, and does not reflect the views of Contradicto. Match results, ratings, and rankings are game outcomes; we do not change them on request except to fix a clear technical fault or abuse.
AI-generated content. Everything Vera, the jurors, and the announcer say or write, including the jury’s reactions and the verdict’s reasons, is generated by AI. Vera’s voice is synthetic speech generated by AI: it is not a recording of a real person. The clips the game makes carry an “AI-generated” label. Do not remove that label, or present lines generated in the game as said by a real person.
14. Availability and changes to the Service
We work to keep Contradicto running, but it is provided as it is and as available. Matches may be interrupted, features may change, and we may limit use to keep the Service fair and affordable, for example with daily match caps and rate limits. If a change materially reduces something you have paid for, you may cancel and receive a proportionate refund.
15. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings. A subscription, or a pass that renews, must be cancelled first in Manage billing, so that it no longer renews; once it is set to end, you can delete your account straight away. Deleting your account permanently removes your unused tokens and games, your monthly games, and any remaining pass time, without refund except where the law requires one, such as a withdrawal from a pass within its 14 days.
We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if the law requires it, or to protect players or the Service. If we close your account without such a reason, we will refund unused purchased games and the unused part of any subscription month or pass.
16. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for intentional or grossly negligent conduct, or under your statutory consumer rights.
Subject to that, we are not liable for losses that were not foreseeable, for loss of profit, business, or data you could have kept yourself, or for content created by other players. Our total liability to you for all claims in any 12 months is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in those 12 months and €50.
17. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Lithuania. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts there or in Lithuania. Please contact us first; most problems can be solved by email. Consumers may also turn to the State Consumer Rights Protection Authority of Lithuania (vvtat.lrv.lt) for out-of-court resolution.
These terms are published in English, Lithuanian, Spanish, and Portuguese. The translations are provided for your convenience. Where the law requires it, each language version is equally binding.
18. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For changes that matter, we will tell you in the game or by email at least 30 days before they take effect. If you do not agree, you can stop using the Service and delete your account before then; continuing to play after the date means you accept the new terms. Changes never apply to purchases already made in a way that reduces what you bought.
